Chaka Khan was born on 23 March, 1953, in Illinois, U.S. Her real name is Yvette Marie Stevens.


In 1970, She started her music career as the lead vocalist of the funk band Rufus.  Her career has spanned more than 5 decades.


Due to her distinct style & contribution to funk music, Chaka Khan also earned the title of "Queen of Funk."


In December 2016, Chaka Khan was ranked by Billboard magazine as the 65th most successful dance club artist of all time.


She released her solo debut album, "Chaka," in October 1978 under the Warner Bros. Record label.


Chaka Khan made her film debut in 1980 with the musical drama film "The Blues Brothers," directed by John Landis.


In December 2004, Berklee College of Music honoured Chaka Khan with an honorary doctorate of music.
