Coco Chanel was born on 19 August, 1883, Saumur, France. Her real name was Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel.
She acquired the nickname "Coco" in the early 1900s during her career as a cabaret singer.
Coco learned sewing when she was in Aubazine (a convent orphanage), where the nuns taught her basic sewing skills and techniques.
Coco was a French fashion designer & businesswoman. She founded her own French luxury fashion house "Chanel", in 1910.
Coco Chanel began her fashion career by designing hats and became a licensed milliner in 1910.
She was also the only fashion designer listed in the list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century in Time magazine.
"Chanel No. 5" was her most iconic fragrance product & also her signature scent, which she launched in 1921.
Coco Chanel never married, but she was the mistress of the most wealthy & influential men of her era and had no children.
During 1935, she became a regular drug user, and she also used to inject herself with morphine on a regular basis.
She spent her 30 years of life at the Hotel Ritz. She died at the same hotel on January 10, 1971 (aged 87).
