1- Nelson Mandela was born on 18 July 1918, in Mvezo, Union of SA. His earlier name was "Rolihlahla Mandela."

2- His initial English name, "Nelson," was given to him by his school teacher, "Miss Mdingane," on the first day of school.

3- Mandela was widely involved in anti-apartheid activities, for which he was sentenced to 27 years in prison by the South African government.

4- Nelson Mandela was the first black person to serve as president of South Africa, from 1994 to 1999.

5- Mandela is also called the second Gandhi. In South Africa, he was also considered "Father of the Nation" & the "Founding Father of Democracy.".

6- In his family, Nelson Mandela was the only person who received a formal education.

10- On 10 Dec, 1993, Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize. In addition, he received the Bharat Ratna in 1990 & the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002.
